Although getting “stoned” is definitely the goal among recreational users, recent research has found a much more benign – and practical – way for people with certain needs to use cannabis compounds (cannabinoids). CBD oil may not be right for everyone, but if you’re interested in finding the best high quality CBD oils, we’ve done the research for you.
"[CBD] tells your body to calm down and reminds you that you’re safe," Dr. Chin says. "It mellows out the nervous system so you’re not in a heightened ‘fight or flight’ response," she says, so people with anxiety may find it helps them feel more relaxed. The tricky part is that there’s some evidence suggesting CBD works best for pain when combined with a little THC, says Dr. Danesh. In New York, where Dr. Danesh practices, for example, CBD is available over the counter.
When people grow cannabis recreationally, they are generally high in THC but contain varying levels of CBD. Found in the flowers, stalks and seeds of the marijuana and hemp varieties of the cannabis plant, CBD is a naturally occurring and plentiful substance, and can be easily extracted from the plant.
Aside from CBD products containing an unreasonable concentration of THC, there is also the issue of manufacturing CBD oil as part of food additives or dietary supplements. While CBD products are generally legal provided they come from hemp, everything is thrown out the window if it happens to be CBD edibles. The FDA does not approve of CBD oil products that claim to be a dietary supplement or products hemp seed oil that encourage buyers to try it with food and drink. The gist of the matter is that Chicago (and Illinois) fully permit the sale of CBD products, provided they are derived from hemp, a plant in the cannabis family. Chicago is also on the lookout for products that might have a high concentration of THC, which is the compound responsible for intoxication in the cannabis plant.
After all, this is how it is able to potentially reduce and/or combat anxiety, inflammation, nausea, certain types of epilepsy, and a whole array of other problems. While preliminary research surrounding CBD’s therapeutic potential is promising, much more needs to be done to conclusively establish its exact mechanism of action. As such, CBD oil is presently considered a nutritional supplement, not a medicine. On the other hand, CBD oil derived from high-THC recreational cannabis often forgoes these stringent processes, or purposefully retains as much THC as possible.
